Sample clips from The FS7.

I’ve placed some straight-from-the-camera PXW-FS7 clips in my drop-box: Click here to download them. The daylight clips are S-log3 and the after dark clips shot with Hypergamma 7. All are XAVC. Some 50p. You can use Sony’s new Catalyst Browse software to view the clips and play with some basic grading controls. Adobe Premiere CC will also open them just fine.

If you find the clips useful please consider buying me a drink:

  1. Thank you very much Alister! They seem to grade very nicely (and can be read directly into Edius). What ISO were the clips shot at?

    I bought you a latte!

    1. Yes, sorry. The interest in the clips has been huge and I exceeded the available bandwidth. I’ll try and get them online some other way.

  2. I looked here for new XQD cards http://www.sony.net/Products/memorycard/en_us/xqd/ and they make the same “mistake”: they say “The larger capacity 128GB model expands the line-up allowing up to 40 minutes of 4K XAVC Intra 422 60p (600Mbps) recording with Sony’s 4K video cameras.” and in the data table ” Recording Time(64GB)*3 4K XAVC-I MXF 60P 600Mbps 10min” . How it’s this possible, 10min on 64GB and 40min in 128GB?
Same problem at Z100 official page “25p[112Mbps] approx 120min with QD-S64(64GB) XQD memory card” ?! It only 63min (most of the time 60min) https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-PXWZ100/
I’m frustrated because they didn’t fulfill their promise with planed firmware for Z100 and I lost money because of no XAVC-S option.

  3. They finally release new firmware (v3.00) with XAVC-L (XAVC-S) option. I have 5 evenings with 2-3 hours or continuous recording so I’ll test it.
I hoped for more features, but I can live with this.

  4. Hi Alister
I’m just downloading those to test, I can’t get clips from my own Fs7 to play in catalyst, “media not supported”. Any tips? I’m playing them directly from XQD.

    1. Catalyst has some problems with FS& XAVC at the moment. For many people it’s not working. Sony are aware of the issue and are trying to resolve it. In the mean time try Premiere CC or DaVinci Resolve.

    1. The extra folders contain metadata and other important information that many edit applications require to handle the clips correctly.

  5. Dear Alister,

thank you for the sample files – a little extra request… could you upload some files in MPEG2 422 format 1080i… we want to test it with our AVID AMA… thanks in advance…
