Re: nanoflash and latency - workaround?

It's a processing delay through the system. The HDSDi out of the camera is about 1 frame behind the actual action, then there is another delay through the NanoFlash unless you select "E-E direct" in the NanoFlash menu.

Re: Help?

Lattitude is a measure of how a camera handles overexposure. Dynamic range is a measure of the range of brightness from dark to light that the camera can deal with. They are essentially very similar measurements. Pola filetrs or Graduated filters are very good ways to control bright skies. You can a...

Using 2/3" zooms on 35mm cameras.

Can you use a 2/3" B4 broadcast zoom on a Sony PMW-F3. Well yesterday I would have said "no", but having seen this video on the AbelCine web site, now I'm not so sure. http://blog.abelcine.com/2011/02/11/using-23-lenses-on-the-panasonic-af100/ The HDx2 adapter magnifies the image to f...

Juice Designs Base Plate for EX1R

I had one of Juice Designs base plates on my EX1 and it was fantastic. It never came off the camera and gave me the confidence that any loads exerted on the base of the camera were spread over the entire EX1 base rather than the weedy single 1/4" screw hole on the bottom of the EX1. When the EX...

Re: What records dual HD-SDI?

At the moment 4:4:4 recording options are limited. You could use an HDCAM SR deck, there are 4:4:4 cards for Mac's and PC's from BlackMagic Designs and various high end vendors have 4:4:4 recorders such as the Cinedeck. Then there will be the new Sony solid state SR memory recorder. Non of these are...

Re: Flickering Pictures

Check that you have flicker reduce set to off. Otherwise it sounds like the frequency of the z96 is too low for the camera. I don't know this lamp so can't really comment. Does changing the dimmer setting alter the banding, I suspect it will. I would certainly never shoot with a shutter faster than ...

When is 4:4:4 really 4:4:4

The new Sony F3 will be landing in end users hands very soon. One of the cameras upgrade options is a 4:4:4 RGB output, but is it really 4:4:4 or is it something else? 4:4:4 should mean no chroma sub-sampling, so the same amount of samples for the R, G and B channels. This would be quite easy to get...

Sensitivity, ISO, Gain and Noise.

With more and more people using 35mm size sensors, more of the old traditional filming styles and techniques are trickling down from the high end to lower and lower production levels. This is a good thing as it often involves slowing down the pace of the shoot and more time being taken over each sho...

Re: PMW-320 Scene Files

The slope at -15 is there to get the most lattitude possible, however there is a bit of a trade off as it can make highlights look a little flat.

Softening Skin selectively

The XDCAM cameras have Sony's Skin Tone Detail Correction system included in the picture profiles. By turning this on you can point the camera at a face (or any other coloured object) and select the hue you want to treat. By using the phase and saturation controls you can adjust the exact hue and hu...
