Radio mics for EX1

Hi all,

My first post here so first I'll say a big HELLO!

I’ve been interested in buying the UWP-V1kit. I wonder if anyone can give me advice or point me at a web site with info regarding the situation with frequencies? According to the Ofcom website all current channels will be obsolete by 2012 but they claim the new frequencies on Channel 38 are availale now, but i can’t find any mic using that channel. We’re also past the date when Ofcom will compensate you for new equipment bought, so it looks like if you buy the above its useless at the start of 2012?

Dosen’t seem right to me, but the only frequency options i can find on this kit are one that will not be legal after 2012?

Cheers

It isn't right, but it's being forced on us and there's not much we can do about it. You won't find any low cost mic's on channel 38 as it is too far away from the normal frequencies so would need a re-designed mic.

Thanks for clarifying, it does put people like me in a difficult position. I need/want to buy that kit, but not if its going to be worthless/useless in 2 years! I guess I'll need to lokk for something second hand.

I'm not sure it will be useless as such as it will still work and in most cases you won't suffer any interference, nor would the low power of a radio mic cause interference. However it will be illegal to use them. My guess is that a lot of owners will continue to use their radio mics illegally.

Re: Radio mics for EX1

I was thinking if the frequency is used for mobile broadband it might get some interference. I've been getting conflicting advice. The Ofcom website seems to say none of the frequencies will be usable but the Sennheiser website says the 6 licence free frequencies on channel 67 will still be OK, so as a temprory measure I've bought some G2 Sennheiser kit. Got it for a good price on ebay, so i recon it won't be too painfull to upgrade later! The Sennheiser G3 series covers the new frequencies, but I wasn't sure i anted to buy into that kit.

Cheers
