pmw-350 vs ikegami HDS-V10?

Happy holidays!

Alister and others, I recently heard about the Ikegami HDS-V10. It seems to be competitive with the PMW-350. Any published comparisons between the two, or any personal testing? One advantage is that it natively records higher bit rates, up to 100 Mbps according to the specs at B&H, in MXF format. A couple of disadvantages I see include only interlaced 1080 recording and expensive media (~$2000 for 64 GB, for one hour at 100 Mbps).

Re: pmw-350 vs ikegami HDS-V10?

I have not seen any reviews or tests of it. Knowing Ikegami the picture quality should be very good. The 50 Mb/s long GoP option will be very similar to the Sony PDW-700, the 100 Mb/s is I frame only so this could well be lower quality than the 35Mb/s long GoP of the EX/350. I don't think picture quality will be significantly better than the PMW-350, but I could be wrong. It is CCD which means no skew, but also means more power hungry (45w). According to the brochure the camera comes with either a 1080i front end or a 720P front end. There are also options to add 25P/30P and an optional downconverter for SD output (but not recording??).

On paper at least the 350 still wins for me due to it's low power consumption, light weight, comprehensive features and well supported workflow. The HDS-V10 with it's MXF files should work fine with Avid but what about other NLE's. By the time you've added all the options it's going to be a lot more money and it doesn't appear to offer overcrank or timelapse. It was announced at NAB in 2007 and I have yet to actually see one.

Thanks, Alister! I think we're going with the 350. Can't wait to test one!

I can't wait either.... the main reason why we are going to NAB this year.
The closest store that may have one of these is about 450 miles away from us.

It looks like Sony has hit another home run.
