Shooting Uncompressed with the EX3

Post by snuforeo » May 24th, 2012, 7:24 am

Alister - you mentioned on one of the forums to avoid 10bit recorders with the EX1r/EX3 cameras. What about an uncompressed recorder like the Hyperdeck Shuttle (still 10bit but uncompressed .mov). I just bought one for the F3... would you still suggest the Nano over uncompressed because of noise issues, etc.?

It's not a case of avoiding them, not at all. But the advantage of 10 bit over 8 bit is near zero with the EX1/EX3 as they are quite noisy. The only reason not to use uncompressed or a high bit rate codec like ProRes is the large file size.
