Fastest frame rate possible with EX3?

Post by redcrow1973 » September 8th, 2011, 11:14 pm

I'm wanting to shoot a slomo walking sequence a la The Right Stuff. The Sony site gives the following info on frame rates:
Recording Frame Rate NTSC model HQ mode:
1920 x 1080/59.94i/29.97P/23.98P
1280 x 720/59.94P/29.97P/23.98P
SP mode:
1440 x 1080/59.94i

Does anyone know if there's a way to crank the frame rate on an EX3 past 59.94i? Also, would 59.94i be technically faster than 59.94P? I'm looking for the fastest frame rate possible for the smoothest look when slowed down.

In the S&Q mode you can shoot at 1280x720 60fps (I suspect it's 59.94P) and this is the fastest the EX cameras will go.

59.94i = 29.98 fps with two interlaced fields, so while the image is being updated 59.94 times a second it's only half of each full frame. It si possible to treat each field as a new frame and play it back at 30P (29.98) or even 24P (23.98) but the resolution will only be 1920x540.
