EF adapter for F3 with aperture control?

Post by harryllama@yahoo.com » November 5th, 2011, 2:42 am

Alister, have you heard any more about an EF adapter for the F3 that will control aperture? Birger still doesn't have one, and I haven't come across any others. Perhaps you've heard something?

Thanks, Alister! The red zoom lens is rather heavy for run and gun use!

Hello, Alister,

I noticed on the B&H site that MTF have listed a new Canon EF adaptor for the PMW-F3. No details or specs, and nothing on the MTF site about it. Do you know whether it controls the electronic aperture? I see a little tab on it, but don't know what that's for.

Here's the link:

Thanks!

No that's a dumb adapter with no iris control. The MTF electronic adapter should be available very soon.

Still hoping that this adapter will be ready sometime in the first half of 2012! Any word from Mike Tapa, Alister?

And thanks for all the amazing footage from the Arctic Circle!

Hooray! MTF is ready to deliver the EF adapter! Here's a note I got from the company:

Thank you for your enquiry, we have now finally completed the new MTF adaptor which we launched at IBC last year to give you full aperture control on Canon EF lenses , and is now ready for shipment.
Listed below are the main details on the New kit.
Canon EF lenses when used on the Canon DSLR cameras will only work in 1/3rd stop increments, however when we were developing the new EFFECT kit we found out that the EF lenses have a capability of 1/8th stop increments when used on our EFFECT kit.
The kit comprises of two parts, the adaptor and the control unit, the adaptor mounts on to the camera body which has the cable to which you then plug into the control box.
The unit will tell you which lens is being used, if using a zoom the display will show you the exact focal length you are working on , and aperture, but after IBC we upgraded the software so it will also control IS, lenses with image stabilisation.
The control unit powers off 4 x AA batteries.
I have attached the video that was done at last years broadcast show in Amsterdam showing it being used on the Sony PMW-F3, the kit has three different camera options on the adaptor, the Sony F3, Sony FS-100 and the Panasonic AF101/102.

The price of the EFFECT kit is as follows-

1 x Canon EF Control adaptor for the Sony PMW-F3 -----------------------£350.00 + Vat
1 x Canon EF Control unit for control adaptors--------------------------------£645.00 + Vat
