10bit over HDMI?
10bit over HDMI?
Looking at the Pix 220 (not the 240 because of availability) for a temporary solution to S-Log 10bit record. I've read some posts that state HDMI cannot output 10bit - only 8bit. Is this correct?

Re: 10bit over HDMI?
The HDMI standard allows for 10bit or even 12bit signals, but whether the F3's HDMI output is 10 bit or not is another matter. I'd wait until you can get the 240 or consider a Samurai. When the new firmware comes out in January your going to get a clean single link S-Log 422 sdi out on the A connector and then S-Log plus LUT on the monitor Sdi out. If your stuck with an HDMI recorder you can only ever use the HDMI, so you can't use LUT's and run the risk of having the camera info text overlaid on your video.
Re: 10bit over HDMI?
Thanks Alister. I was hoping you could enlighten me on the issue - and give some 'coming soon to a theater new you' also helps. I really felt 'jipped' about the whole LUT and 422 output with S-Log. Nice to hear that they will appease those of us who would like to reference LUT but don't necessarily need 4:4:4 on the Gemini/Cinedeck, etc.
Re: 10bit over HDMI?/Reply from Sony
Below is the Sony response (which surprised me). Since this is kind of a gray area - thought I would post:
