Resolution for new F cameras

Post by starcentral » November 20th, 2012, 5:19 pm

Alister what do you suggest will be the effective resolution of the new F cameras?

From what I've gathered both F5 and F55 cameras use a bayern pattern sensor with 4096x2160 effective pixels.

From reading some of your posts as well as others who have a lot of experience with sensor designs and resolution yields I am gathering that the cameras will yield 80% of the horizontal resolution which is about 3200 lines.

An update on this and some added clarity.

Sony's initial press release indicated that the F55 delivered color similar to the F65 which can be misleading depending on how you read it so an article written by Mitch Gross explains in detail the only thing the F55 shares in common with the F65 in terms of "color reproduction" is the filter itself and more specifically the color dyes used to make it.

The article indicates that the F5 is meant for REC709 color space while the F55 is meant for an extended color gamut beyond what eben broadcast monitors can display. Sony (or the article at least) claims no other filter in the world can produce this level of color.
