FS-100 as B Camera to F3: Broadcast

Post by HDTV-Entertainment » March 12th, 2012, 9:28 pm

I am considering using FS-100 cameras as B cameras to a F3 for broadcast work on a reality show instead of EX3's and nanoflash.

Judging by Alisters comparision of the two, they should cut together just fine, perhaps better than the EX3 with the F3. However, I noticed that the HDMI out is 8bit 4:2:2 not 10bit as is the case with the SDHI out on the EX3. I think this may be a problem with network acceptance. Perhaps, I should stick to the EX3's/nanoflash for B cameras.

Does anyone have any experience or a POV on this?

Why would the network reject 8 bit footage? Is 10-bit specified in their guidelines?

well, i am not actually sure. i think bbc standards are fairly tight and 8bit does not hold up as well pushing it in post. So, i am only guessing.

i think that HDCamSr is the standard delivery media that most networks have required. That maybe changing but the format is 10 bits 4:2:2. That all that makes me think it.

That just refers to the delivery format (which will vary from broadcaster to broadcaster) and not the original recording format. 50mb/s and above 8-bit should be acceptable by most depending on what exactly you are doing. You need to check with your broadcaster directly though. There's no point in assuming or guessing.

8 bit 50Mb/s and above is fine with the BBC.
