Hi, wondering if anyone can help me. Im filming a seminar which also need to be projected at the same time, live. The hotel have asked me what kind of projector I need. Would it be best to ask for a projector with an HDMI out? That way i can connect my EX1R to the projector via HDMI to HDMI cable? Cheers.

That's going to be the safest bet, a projector with HDMI in and 1920x1080 resolution for full HD or 1280x720 for 720p.

BUT Remember that HDMI is limited to short cable runs. Even with a top quality cable, 10m (30ft) would really be pushing the distance, typically HDMI is best with cables less than 5m (15ft).

At a push you could use the cameras built in downconverter to output SD over the composite output and use a projector with a composite video input, but this will of course be SD, not HD and won't look as good.

Thanks Alister. Never thought about the cable run issue. Its going to a run on another level so could be longer that 5m. If i went down the SD way exactly what cable would i need to get? Thanks.

It depends on the projector.

If you using an EX1R then you will need the special Sony composite output cable. Then a phono to BNC adapter, then a BNC-BNC barrel and finally a high quality 75 ohm BNC to BNC cable. A good quality cable should be OK up to about 25m, 50m at a push. Then you may need a BNC to phono plug adapter to go into the projector. If you need sound as well then a long pair of phono to phono cables, but be aware that on long runs you may get some hum pickup.

If you are prepared to spend some money another way of doing it is HDMI over Cat 5 cabling. It consists of two converters, one each end, and according to the specifications is capable of up to 100mts distance. I have no connection with this company but have a look here. This of course will be full HD with audio.
