Northern Lights Live 2012

NORTHERN LIGHTS LIVE 2012.

REAL TIME video of the January 24th Solar Storm:

January 30th, bright moon making long exposures look like daylight!

January 27th. A nice show was visible from or camp in Karasjok:

Pictures and video from 24th Jan Below. What more can I say. This was an incredible evening that I will never forget. A strong solar flare impacted the earth creating incredible Auroras that filled the night sky with a rainbow of colours. I just didn’t know where to look or what to shoot. Just wait till you see the videos! I was shooting with a motion control head for star  tracking pans and the timing is perfect with the camera panning through the Aurora right at it’s peak. I was also able to shoot real time video of the Aurora with the F3, so not speeded up. You can see the true motion of the Northern Lights in the video. Once I get home (I’m in Norway for another week) I’ll compile the many hours of incredible images that I have into what should be a jaw dropping video.

Here are some pictures and video from Friday 20th Jan. Taken just outside Tromso in between the clouds. A promising start to the trip.

Aurora over Tromso 21-1-12

Northern Lights Tromso 21-1-12

Between January 20th and Feb 1st 2012 I will be in Norway to shoot the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. I will be trying to feed near live images of the Aurora to this page on a nightly basis on the 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, and 30th of January, weather and technology permitting.

We only have an extremely limited data connection where we will be based, so please don’t expect real-time live video. What I do hope to have is a fresh high resolution image of the Northern Lights on this page every 30 seconds, within seconds of the image actually being captured. As well as the still images there will be written updates and video clips that should go online on the 25th and 31st of January.

UPDATES:

20th Jan, 17:00  Arrived in Tromso, but scattered light cloud is currently obscuring the sky. Will be checking at regular intervals, but don’t think we will see anything tonight. A large CME (Solar Flare) is heading for the earth, it should impact on Sat 21st/Sun 22nd, so really hoping for clear skies as the Aurora should be spectacular. Live images will be online from tomorrow night.

  11. Fantastic footage but am I seeing a dead pixel right in the centre of your footage. I do realise you are pushing the F3 to its limits. I would cut the wind noise.

Incredible. The skies and lights look out of this world. Hope Mark,Sue and rest of intrepid crew are enjoying the experience. At least you have plenty of ice for a decent G and T !!
