PMW 500 Colour Temperature Readings

Post by stefanotto » December 5th, 2013, 12:25 pm

Does anyone know why the PMW 500 gives very low colour temperature readings? I have experienced this with other PMW 500 cameras as well as my own. Where I would expect to get a reading of around 6.5K under a cloudy sky I'm getting 5.2K. In sunshine I'm getting readings of something like 4.8K. The pictures look correct when balanced with this reading, but the numbers are too low.

That's interesting that you're finding this as I tend to find the opposite!

Compared to my old DVCam camera, the 500's reading are higher. At 5-5600, the 500 would roughly be 6-6500, for example.

Are you're readings down to a setting that you may not be aware of on the camera??

Following up on this, I now understand that some 500 's are having the CCD gain adjusted to correct white balance values.
Obviously this would have to be done by an engineer, etc but could help you.
