Matching PDW 700 and Canon 7D

Post by mike.heenan » January 19th, 2012, 5:11 pm

I've been shooting with a Canon 7D recently; I'm trying to come up with a scene file for the XD CAM (PDW-700) that attempts to match the two. I was curious to know if you had anything already exsists?

If you use the Matrix settings from this EX profile it should get you close.

I need to do the same, wanting to match 7D B-Roll and F800 for a food/travel series, but would like to adjust the 7D to be less crushed, closer to the F800 rather than the other way around. I would usually shoot low contrast for grade, but suspect I might need to meet the 7D half way.

1. Can Gamma and Blacks be adjusted in the 7D?
2. If so, has anyone found a good profile to match F800

I presume there will be limits on how close I can get - can anyone report on the limitations?

Best way to match cameras is to bring the more capable camera down to the level of the less capable one. If you really did want to help the 7D along you could try the picture styles that are available from the same guys who make the digital praxis curves for the F900 etc. you need to pay a small fee from them but they are more realistic in capability than the awful Technicolor or super flat styles.
