Thumbnails menu grayed out on my FS7

I have just purchased a used FS7 and have been learning from Doug Jensen's excellent online tutorials on Vimeo.

I have a problem with Thumbnails in the menu. When I click on it to watch the recorded clips I get the message: 'Can't access the file'. However, if I assign the Thumbnails function to one of the three available buttons I can see the thumbnails and play the clips. Not sure what's going on here. Any advice would be gratefully received.
