Ex1 viewfinder loupe modification

I want to fit a viewfinder loupe to the ex1 LCD and need to modify it for a 3.5" screen. Most of the commercial ones move the Loupe back around 1 cm to enable a wider view. This also reduces the diopter range which I would like to avoid. My idea is to make the base of the loupe wider with a little cutting and glueing and keep the focal distance the same as before. Can anyone see any reason why this might not work before I destroy the loupe?
