PDW-U2 with Media Composer on a MacPro

Have never used XDCAM; shoot with mostly P2 and deliver to stations on HDCAM tape. But our stations are now mostly taking delivery on XDCAM disks, and so we're thinking of heading that direction to get away from the expense of tapes and repairs of our aging HDCAM decks.
The PDW-U1 is reported to work well with Macs and Avid on write back/export. But I'd rather buy the newer technology of the U2. Can anyone tell me if it works on the Macs with USB 2.0? And, further, has anyone used it for write back with a USB 3.0 card installed on a MacPro? Which card?
