DOF ADAPTER

Post by ollywood88 » March 16th, 2011, 12:07 am

Hi Alister :)

Hope your well

I have just obtained an SG BLADE for my EX1.

I have noticed the imaging can be a bit soft. however i am impressed with the results.

I was reading that sometimes people use the detail function in the PP.

For example i haven't tweaked the level, freq or Crispening.

Can you tell me if this is necessary for DOF to get a much sharper look? For example

I have seen a picture profile for a letus

as : Level -8
freq. - +80
Crisp +30
HV/RATIO -10
Black Limiter +80
White +80

Can you tell me if this is good and what they do?

Many thanks

Ollie

The settings you have included above will make the image look even softer, however they may make the images look a little more "filmic". Devices such as the SG Blade will always soften the image a bit, it's down to the way they work. Adding electronic sharpness will make the image appear sharper, but won't actually increase the true image detail and may make the image look more processed and electronic, thus defeating the idea of using a DoF adapter. I would not change the detail settings unless you want to go for a very soft look as above.

Hey Alister thanks for the reply.

What settings do you think will work well with the DOF adapter. I am using a Nikon E Series Prime, slightly soft, when i grade seems to add more detail. when i crush the blacks.

Thanks
