Good Day,

help please, I have two problems with my EX1R.

1) I filmed a concert last month and the first half of the footage looks great and then we had a break, after the break we just switched the camera on and started to record and the footage is very poor quality see pic. If I view the footage on the camera it looks fine and on my laptop and edit machine it looks fine but if I play using Composite or HDMI or SDI or via the edit machines IO (Blackmagic Studio Pro) it looks like the picture.

2) I filmed a wedding last week and all looks ok but I took the camera out the bag a few days later and it looks like the lens had marks on so I tried to clean it with no luck so I recorded some footage and download and it must be internal any Ideas please.

thank you

Darren

Not sure what the top issue is, very strange, looks like some kind of interlace type artefact.

The lower problem is almost certainly dust on the front of the sensor block or ND filters. Try changing ND to see of it's just on one ND. If you open the iris up it may be less visible or even completely invisible, otherwise it could be a very expensive cleaning job or even sensor replacement if it's inside the sensor block.

Hi Alister,

Thanks for your reply, the top issue is strange and so far it has not done it again. I have tried everything in regards to the marks on the sensor and if you adjust the Iris it does go away to a certain degree. The camera is just over 1 year old, how dust resistant should these things be? My previous camera a PD 170 took ten times more punishment than this camera has taken. I have had a few problems in the past when you change the ND filter it gets stuck half way (half is dark and other half light). I will take the camera in next week as all the dealers are closed this week. I will give you feedback when I find out what the issue is.

Thanks

Darren

Hi,

got some feed back from our local dealer. The sensor block has dust in (the sealed unit) He will speak to Sony to get a new one as this should be dust free from factory.

Thanks for the update. That's not the first case of dust in the block that I've heard. :-(

Hi Alister,

Well not good news. I got the camera back from the local agents after the techie blew it out and still got a small mark, and he said he would get a new block from Sony. The big problem now is trying to get the block from Sony as they say its not Sony's problem. I have spoken to a few repair shops and they have all told me this is not the first time (seems to be a common problem) and it will cost in the region of R21 000.00 to replace. This is a third of the price of a new camera. The camera has got 280 hrs on it and has been used for Weddings, school plays, church services and some bike racing (tar track not much dust). The camera has gone back to the Local agents and Sony will take a look after a few phone calls so I am just waiting for a reply. One of the repair shops have told me the block is not sealed and it has a small slit onthe one side. I hope they can fix it as this type of repair would put a huge dent in my bussiness and would make me wonder if Sony is the way forward or is it time to change!

Thanks

Dax
