What are these files, and what do they do?

Hello all,

What a great little forum! Clearly lots of useful info around.

I am currently working on a production in which I've been asked to use Content Browser to copy XDCAM 422 from SxS Cards onto a drive. Not a problem! However, I have noticed that it will drop certain files from the TAKE folder. This seems only to be the XML and SMI files that the naming convention implys they are related to clips from the previous card. It will also drop the CUEUP.XML from the root.

I've spoken to a few editors and they've assured me that the CUEUP is camera related, and Premiere actually throws an error when you try to import an SxS. Which has put my mind at ease. But, after trawling the net and ringing the ever unhelp broadcast dept of Sony, I would love to know exactly what these files are?

We're shooting on PMW200s if that helps at all.
