VITEC FS T1001 at 50mbps for pmw350

Has anyone used a Vitec/Firestore FS T1001 at 50mbps ? I see in the marketing bumf that Vitec have included 50mbps HD422 on their recorder as a firmware update but I see conflicting specs for this device on the net with most listing it as a 35Mbps device.

I have a PMW350 and need to go 50Mbps as it seems ITV are going 50Mbps on SxS for news acqusition (seen the cameras being tested at GTV).

I was wondering wether it would be a good option to choose instead of trading in my 350 and buying a 500.

Ultimately it might be a better idea to trade up to the PMW500 but I'll miss the battery life, low weight and low light capabilities of the 350.

The NanoFlash does 50Mb/s 422 MXF's that are 100% compatible with the XDCAM HD422 MXF's for certain.

Hi Alister,

I ve looked at the Nanoflash and it doesn t suit the workflow I ve been told to use.

The client sends out producers with SxS cards and expects them back as soon as filming is finished for ingest/edit. No time to transfer to/from CF to laptop then back to SxS which is what the Nanoflash workflow entails.

It's a shame Mr Sony doesn't offer a chargeable 50mbps firmware update for the 350 as I'm sure it can be done. But then I guess they think they won't sell me a 500 instead.

It seems Vitec have changed their mind with the FS T1001 and HD422 50Mbps. Email reply from Vitec below:

VITEC thanks you for your interest in Focus products. Originally the FS-T1001 was suppose to have the 50Mbps. That is not the case. We will make changes on our side.

However, the Focus FS-T2001 (http://www.focusinfo.com/fst2001.asp) does have the 50Mbps and is available now.
