Optical XDCAM to Thunderbolt issue

Has anyone found a solution to get XDCAM decks to be recognized on a mac using the firewire to thunderbolt adapter? I have tried both my deck PDW-F70 and Camera PDW-350 and neither will mount on the mac. It's seeing them on the system report but not mounting. This is a big problem as I have a new mac that doesn't have firewire. I've tried downloading some drivers etc, but to be honest I don't know exactly which ones I need. Anyone have a solution to this issue?
