PAL Conversion Necessary?
Alister - I need to give some specs for someone to shoot footage over in Croatia (we will edit in U.S.A.). Since I can give some direction on camera, etc. - should I have them convert footage to NTSC - or dependent on the camera - they can just shoot NTSC, correct (I guess I'm asking if PAL is still...

Hyperdeck Shuttle 59.94i/720p60 issue
Alister, Really like the Hyperdeck Shuttle... running out of SDI port A 1.5g Slog/4:2:2... however, when I try to record 720p60 or 1080 59.94i the Hyperdeck records (2) images stacked on top of one another. Blackmagic Design says both formats are supported by the Shuttle. Do I have to use a dual lin...

Shooting Uncompressed with the EX3
Alister - you mentioned on one of the forums to avoid 10bit recorders with the EX1r/EX3 cameras. What about an uncompressed recorder like the Hyperdeck Shuttle (still 10bit but uncompressed .mov). I just bought one for the F3... would you still suggest the Nano over uncompressed because of noise iss...

Re: Pix240 is a piece of junk
Not sure Paul. Although I'd be interested in how operator error can cause digital hits. A faulty SDI cable... a bad chip in the camera... maybe (we'll let that one go for now). Back to the PIX240... now in fairness, maybe I just got a lemon... after all, I bought this in the hey day of when everyone...

Pix240 is a piece of junk
I've tried this thing on the F3, as well as, the EX3. I know, the EX3 will really have no advantage with 10bit... but I thought I would try out the recorder in a relatively safe situation. Nope... just as with previous shoots - the output is upper field... and when you go into the camera and change ...

Re: Digital Hits with 10bit Recorders
Alister, What is your feeling about the Gemini 4:4:4... I know you wrote a review a while back... now that you've had a bit more time - do you feel like there is enough of a difference from 4:2:2 to justify $7k or so (and the workflow headache)? We do use the F3 for some spot work - but mostly corpo...

Digital Hits with 10bit Recorders
I have the PIX 240 and the AJA Ki Pro Mini. I notice I get digital hits on both recorders... more often than not... which tends to be a problem when I use S-Log and have to grade an important shot (inevitably) off the in-camera SxS cards. I come out of the port A - I've changed SDI cables to see if ...

Zeiss 18mm CP.2 Suggestions
Alister, Any suggestions on using the 18mm? I have both the 35mm and the 18mm (Zeiss CP.2). For obvious reasons (T stop and speed) - the 18mm just seems a bit clunky... and noisy. That being said, I'm unsure if there is any correlation between noise level and speed of the lens. Do you have any sugge...

New Pic Profile (reduces saturation)???
Alister,
A friend of mine wanted me to nudge you about a new profile you mentioned back in Nov. that reduces saturation banding in highlights. Any chance we can get that before the New Year.
