Experimental s709 LUT Specifically for the FX9.

I’ve had a few people comment that they feel that the PXW-FX9 is a touch green when you shoot S-Log3 and SGamut3.cine and then add the standard Sony s709 V200 LUT in post. So I have created a slightly modified version of the s709 LUT that I have tweaked specifically for the FX9. You can download it using the like below. Do let me know what you think.

  1. Alister,
Is there a difference between shooting the FX9 in S Cinetone or shooting it in Slog3 with the s709 LUT and burning in the LUT.
In either case could you just correct for that supposed green tendency in camera just by balancing a touch magenta? In fact even if you don’t burn in the LUT could you just shoot the FX9 in Slog with the color tilted a touch toward magenta as matter of course and just use the standard s709 LUT in post?

    1. S-Cinetone has more contrast than s709. s709 is slightly flat to give the ability to tweak it in post, while S-Cinetone is really meant for direct to air applications.

        1. White balance and a color tint are two very different things. If you skew the WB towards magenta then your whites won’t be white. That’s not the problem, whites are white. The issue is some people think the image in post has a slight tendency towards green and this LUT reduces the green green bias without altering the white balance.

          1. Thanks again Alister.
Which version of the S709 LUT would you recommend for the FS7?

Hey did you take down the option to buy you a cuppa coffee?
